Nicholas Baynard, Pisgah Energy Construction Manager

1. Why did you join the Pisgah Energy team?

I wanted to join the Pisgah Energy team as a Construction Manager because it is a dream job for me in the Solar Industry, which I’m passionate about. It didn’t hurt that Pisgah Energy is a strong, reputable and local company. What’s not to love?

2. What drew you to work in renewable energy initially?

About five years ago it felt like it was time for a meaningful career change and I was specifically looking for something that I could really stand behind and be proud of. Solar work check all of those boxes for me.

3. What excites you most about the future of renewable energy?

I love that the technology changes all of the time to become more efficient and available for people all around the globe. I sometimes dream of a word in which we’ve met all of our energy needs sustainably and safely. 

4.  What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?

When I was in my early 20s, I worked hard as a line-cook in some great kitchens. I also worked in some rather seedy ones where, suffice it to say, one was witness to some pretty interesting ordeals.

5. Is there a ‘Next Big Adventure’ you’d like to go on?

Yes! I’d love to get back to Colorado and hike some more 14’ers soon. In the future, I’d also love to explore Iceland, Scandinavia, and Japan.

6. Do you have a favorite meal and/or dessert?

This is a hard one because I love all food pretty equally, but I’ve never met a pizza or a tiramisu that I didn’t like.

7. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love playing guitars, climbing rocks, seeing stand-up comedy, reading and generally enjoying the outdoors.

8. What kind of music is at the top of your list these days? 

Lately I’ve been getting back into jazz and funk.

There are some excellent bands coming out of Sweden and Japan.  

9. Do you have a personal mantra or favorite quote?

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”  –  Albert Einstein

10. Off the top of your head, what are three words that describe you?

Curious, motivated and musical.
